A couple of requests.

This isn't really a 'flood blog' post, just a quick response to a few requests.

The regulars may remember that I was at a wedding a few weeks ago, and I've had a couple
requests for pictures. So here they are.

This is the happy couple:
The magic is over.
This is the minister. He reminded me of Father Guido Sarducci from SNL.
This is the cake.
This is the Junior Bridesmaid and the Junior Groomsman. They danced like this for most of the night.
These were my shoes.

Bob The Builder Is On The Job!

Sara sent some photos and an update on the cabinet progress. For those of you who are a bit behind on the story, Sara is Fred's niece and her husband Slugs (aka Bob) is rebuilding the kitchen cabinets!

Here's Sara's update and pictures!

Slugs is working away on the cabinets and actually has about 4 done - minus a bit of hardware. He has most all the wood parts cut and varnished and is in assembly mode. He is really enjoying the project, says he likes the scenery in his shop (see attached pics to understand). May see you at the farm for fish on Sunday - not sure yet. Also have attached some misc. flower pics from my yard.

Pictures, pictures!!

Fred put up a bunch of counters in the basement today and Sher did her usual arrange, re-arrange, clean, arrange.
So rather than blabber on about crap, I'll just put up the pictures.

Here's a counter
Here's the workshop side of the basement
Here's some dinner salads
This is Fred's new bait fridge
Here's the entire contents of Fred's bait fridge.
This is the famous skillet that Sher can cook a 7 course meal in.
Here's another counter. This one has a sink that's not hooked up yet.

This is the evidence in the tree fire investigation.
More evidence- good shot of the char.

Fire in the Hole!!!!!

Literally!
There was a fire in a hole in the tree at the street end of the drive way. Smoke and all. It smells like a campfire. The neighbor came over and asked Fred if he knew his tree was on fire. Fred put it out with a garden hose.

We suspect one of the local pipe smokers.

Otherwise, there wasn't much going on. Sher did some cleaning and arranging and Fred fished. There is a bathroom door of sorts! Fred and Sher have now permanently moved back into their own bedroom! So they no longer needed the shower curtain at the top of the stairs to keep the auxiliary AC unit's output contained. So it has been re-purposed as a bathroom door. It's much nicer than just announcing to anyone currently present or anyone who might arrive that you need to use the terlet, so don't come down the hall.

We are a classy bunch!

Ow

I decided not to go over to Fred and Sher's today. Mostly because I decided to fall down the basement stairs last night and spend my Saturday sitting on an ice pack.

I did talk to she and she had gone shopping with a couple friends in the morning and just puttered around for the afternoon. Fred had wired up some phone jacks and one assumes he went fishing, but I didn't get an official report on that.

I did put up some pictures on yesterdays post to show the house progress. For today, I'll show some of the garden progress.

In an electric skillet??

I continue to be amazed at what Sher can do in with an electric skillet. Yesterday, she baked breakfast bars! Yes, I said BAKED! This isn't a fancy electric skillet. It's just a plain one that plugs in and has a dial thingy to control the temp.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture. BUT, she decided it worked so well, she might make them in there all the time now, so I'll snap a picture next time.

Sher continued to haul stuff back down to the main floor, dresser drawers, cushions, rugs, etc. We actually sat in the living room last night. It has been over 2 months since the living room was sittable. She also put more coats of paint on the porch floor, now it just needs to dry. (It was rainy yesterday, so drying was very slow.)

The big event on Thursday was the installation of the washer and dryer on their pedestals! There was some concern about whether they would fit under the cupboards that are in the laundry room. That concern was warranted- the dryer is touching the cupboard, but not pushing on it. Another 1/8 of an inch, and there would have been some sawing, or at least planing. But it all worked out, and it looks really nice.

I'll grab some pictures after work and put them up tonight so you can see how it's all going.

She's Baaaaack!

[Sher's blogging again today!]
So, how do you like my new kitchen? It's the same in another room with the addition of the micro.

Today was floor day. The bathroom floor was finished with three coats of sealer. As soon as I find the rug, towels, and pictures, it's done.

The laundry, half-bath and basement entry now have lovely vinyl on the floor.

Thursday the washer and dryer will be installed on pedestals with drawers.

My day was spent washing the porch windows and preparing the floor for paint which entailed lots of scrubbing and sanding. This photo will show you the lovely color that I chose. [sorry about the blur]

[ummmm. that's all I can think of. you didn't write that down, did you? Erase that!]

I followed all of that with 2 rather large glasses of Chardonnay, edamame, a peach, and a large helping of zucchini casserole topped by a large chopped tomato.

Recipe:
Saute
1 1/2 to 2 lbs of zucchini
1 medium onion chopped
2 T butter
Remove from heat and fold in:
4 oz chopped green chilies
2 T flour
1 t salt
1/2 t pepper
--(optional- Add grated carrot, red and green sweet peppers for more color.)
Place in a 9x13 baking dish. Cover with:
1 1/2 C grated Monteray Jack Cheese
Top with a mixture of:
1 1/2 C cottage cheese
1 large egg
2 T parsley
Sprinkle with:
1/2 C grated Parmesan cheese
Bake at 400 for 25-35 minutes. Serve topped with chopped tomato.

Finally, The Blog has come back to Waverly.

That's a bit of a pro-wrestling reference.

Anyway, I was out of town for work for a couple days and clearly didn't blog.

So here's the big news! There's floor!! A bunch of floor. It's the bamboo, which is in most of the house. There are several pictures below, but they don't do it justice. It is spectacular. IF anyone is going through town, stop by and see it. I knew it was going to look good, but it's more fabulous that I expected.

The guy that installed said it was really great to work with. He took a scrap home to show his wife and came back the next day asking if he could buy some of the overage because she wants it in their bathroom.

In other news, Fred's going on a fishing trip! I think it's about time. There really isn't much left that he can do himself, so he felt he could go. I agree that it's about time he get out of town for some R&R.

They went and got a few loads of furniture today too. I'm not sure if they got all of it, but I think they may have. It looks odd having furniture and a floor in the house, which is an odd thing to look odd.

They should be getting some more floor some time next week. It will be the Congoleum that is going in the back entry, laundry, and small bathroom.

Oh yeah, and Fred put the tile back on the wall in the main bath. It's not a perfect color match, but at this point, who cares. It's nice to have floors and walls.

That's enough random ramblings for now, here's the pictures.

But first- food: there's been a variety over the last several days including fresh fish, garden veggies, sweet corn, steaks, pork steaks, cooked cabbage, and cookies and bars..

Another short one.

Just another brief update, as it is really late and I am tired.

The AC is in and fixed. (There was some condensation leaking out in the wrong place, but it's fixed now.)

And we have floor!! well, a little bit anyway. Here's some bad pictures as I only had the phone with me, no real camera.

I knew it was going to look good, but it's even nicer than I expected. I'll try for some better pictures in a couple days.
