battle of the installers

I stopped at fred and sher's after work thinking I could get a few pictures of a partially installed floor but no such luck. Apparently the AC guy said the floor needed to go in first and the floor guy said the AC needed to go first. Floor guy won even though he's a bit small. So AC guy is supposed to be back Friday with an AC unit that was, amazingly enough, delivered exactly on the day that Fred would have told him to cough one up or we'll go elsewhere. I shouldn't be to tough on him though since he did already fix the water heater and softener.
There is underlayment in the kitchen. But it still just looks like plywood, only now it's layed out instead of stacked up.
I'm not sure even floor guy will be back. Maybe next week.

We'll be at Katie's wedding this weekend so updated will be slim.

We're FAMOUS!

(Jill Posting today, not Pam)

OK, not famous, but the note I left at the Hillcrest Motel (see entry dated June 20) in Luverne, Minnesota is now on the customer notes section of their website. I didn't sign it but it looks like this:

I'm so proud. I left it because I knew they put the notes on the web. Before now the notes were just scanned in with the ripped edges and all. I had ripped a piece of paper into a weird shape hoping that they would scan it in all ratty like it really was. But, now they've cleaned up their act. Oh well. I'm still famous. I can prove it's mine because who else has that scary serial killer handwriting?

Anyway, I talked to Sher and she had some updates and Pam had not been over:

1) She made breakfast bars in an electric skillet and they turned out great.
2) Cathey Avery is bringing breakfast bars as well so they are fully breakfasted (brokefast?)
3) Fred blew a breaker and blamed Sher. He had a skillet, fan, pump, and something else running off the same outlet and when the breaker blew he assumed Sher had started the microwave. Sher don't play that and pointed out that since she was using ZERO appliances and he had like 5 going on one circuit, he'd blown his own breaker. I suggested we stop there with the story because there was no where good to go from that point.
4) The woodwork died long live the woodwork. Joni had taken all the woodwork to her shop in Elkader to redo, but alas and alack, it died. She couldn't get the nails out without splintering it so Sher is going to find new trim and Joni will finish it for her.
5) The bamboo floor installation guy hasn't started yet because the bamboo has to acclimate and he needs to talk to the mothership to make sure they do it right. I think doing it right will be worth it.
6) There was something else...Oh yes, they are headed to Katie's Wedding this weekend. Happy Wedding Katie!

It's here!

The flooring that was supposed to arrive "early this week" arrived today! It's in Cedar Falls and needs to be picked up which Fred was going to do today, but then it looked like rain. He may go tomorrow. There's also some plywood for underlayment in the kitchen that the installer guy in going to start working on this week.
I don't have pictures, but I'm sure you all know what plywood looks like.

When I stopped over afterwork, Sher was doing some random pruning and Fred had gone fishing. You can't really see him, but he is off in the distance in this picture.

I think Sher was planning on making fish for supper.

A finished floor.

Fred finished the bathroom floor. It looks nice.

The toilet is still in the bedroom because it will be easier to put the tiles on the wall without it in the way.

He also fixed an outlet- not the electricity part, just the wall.

He also slipped in the river when he was fishing, went up to his chin, and therefore over his chest waders. The only uncommon part of this is that it's August and it may be the first time this summer. These are his socks.

Here's the bean plant, it's growing.

This is a duck that we fed in the back yard.

This is a daisy from Julie K.

There's some sort of wagon wheel in the river.

Here's a close up.

For dinner, Sher was making round steak with onions and tomatoes, with corn on the cob.

Floor!

There's almost one room of floor installed. Fred was working on laying down the sticky tiles in the big bathroom this afternoon. He was nearly done, but not quite. I'll get some pictures when it's done tomorrow.

Sher worked on more painting in the basement. And talked to the floor installer who says he may be able to start working on underlayment sometime next week.

Dinner tonight was fish, corn, and garden cucumbers and tomatoes that someone dropped of yesterday.

Here's a picture of some bugs that were eating Sher's parsley plant.

I know, I know

I forgot to talk about the food again!

Birthday dinner was sirloin steak with fresh green beans and corn on the cob.
